A Brief Introduction

Oral Academy is a modern platform for communication between colleagues. It is a new medium for sharing experiences and ideas. The platform is created by a young team and aims to shorten the distance between dentists in the virtual space and to assist them in more difficult clinical cases.

The platform has an active Facebook page, announcing the main publications and news, as well as a group where you can discuss everything in the field of dental medicine. The site has already published many useful materials that are free to download. Some of these are questionnaires for assessment of the patients' medical status, various informed consent, a brief guide to antibiotics used in odontogenic infections, and many more.

Gingivitis is a common disease in humans, with different causes depending on the age group. Older people are more often affected, while gingivitis is significantly less common in children. The clinical condition is characterized by red, swollen and painful gums that easily bleed on contact. A concomitant symptom is the bad breath.

Periodontitis is an inflammation of the tissues around the tooth, including periodontal ligament, cement and alveolar bone. It develops in response to (predominantly) gram-negative, anaerobic bacteria that originate in the oral cavity and accumulate on the tooth surface as a dental plaque. The host responds with an inflammatory response to the bacteria in the plaque. Whether acute or chronic, inflammation can ultimately lead to bone loss that supports the dental structures.
